An accelerometer is a device that detects force that acts on it in three ways (x,y,z). In sleep mode, it will detect a gravity force and when powering up it will detect all other forces that act on it. Because of it "feeling" gravity with this sensor you can measure and detect many things: hits, bias, movement, taping, footsteps, etc. Gyroscope on the other end is the possibility to detect orientation and angular velocity and will give more detailed information about the location of the object where it is also in three axes (x,y,z).
Specifically, this accelerometer measures forces all up to ±16 g and with speed up to 6700 measures per second. The gyroscope goes up to ±2000 DPS on 1700 measures per second. For their measures there is a FIFO buffer from 8kB, so your data will never be lost. It is not negligible that the device is extremely low-power and consumes a maximum of just over 1mA, and there are two interrupt pins.
Accelerometer measurement range: ±2/±4/±8/±16 g
Gyroscope measurement range: ±125/±245/±500/±1000/±2000 dps
Communication: I2C, SPI
Voltage: 3.3V
Power usage: 900uA - 1250uA
Dimensions: 25 x 17 mm
easyC connector
