The MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) algorithm monitors the current and voltage coming from the solar panel and adjusts them to extract the maximum possible efficiency from the same solar panel. While MPPT chargers are quite usual for car battery charging, there are not many for lithium batteries. But here's one in our production!


 


Based on the Linear chip LT3652, it can be powered by solar panels up to 32V and it can charge Lithium (Li-ion, Li-poly, LiFePO4) batteries in 1S, 2S, 3S and 4S, up to 14.4V. It comes configured for one 1S battery, but changing the resistor on the board it can be set for other configurations. It can charge your battery up to 2A and the currents of 0.5A, 1A and 1.5A can easily be set via a jumper on the board. Via the potentiometer on the PCB, you set the MPPT point, the one where your solar system has the highest efficiency, by turning it while solar is at the highest sun peak on which it will be exposed and adjusting the voltage at "MPPT SET" to 2.8V.
